The Port of Kitakyushu, a specially designated port, has approximately 200 monthly shipping routes for regular overseas container shipments including an Asian route, due to the port being adjacent to the fast-growing region of East Asia.
A logistical base has been established for air, land and sea, including the Tachinoura Container Terminal with a full Asian route, the Hibiki Container Terminal with 15-meter deep quays, the Kitakyushu Airport that is both convenient and under 24-hour operation, and a functional road network connecting all these transportation routes.
The Port of Kitakyushu is a historical international port that has developed as a node connecting Japan with the Asian continent.
Ninety percent of approximately 200 routes for regular overseas container shipments are via the Asian route, continuously playing an important role in connecting Japan with the main continent of Asia.
The Tachinoura Container Terminal is one of the largest container terminals in western Japan.
Its computerized operation makes for accurate, prompt and efficient handling of over 180 container vessels every month. Furthermore, full-time forwarders serve both full containers and mixed cargo.

The Hibiki Container Terminal, which commenced services in April 2005, was the first port to seriously introduce private finance initiatives. It is a high standard terminal and the only port on the Japan Sea with a 15-meter deep-water pier that allows over-panamax large size container ships to enter the port.

There are three container platforms at the station. Of them, 4 lines at two platforms allow cargo loading/unloading at arrivals and departures, enabling speedy operation. Furthermore, the third container platform has a facility to handle marine containers. Prompt and flexible domestic logistics services are in place, utilizing the Sea & Rail Service co-developed with adjacent Kitakyushu Port.
