In 2001, the Kitakyushu Science and Research Park became an academic and research oriented center in Kitakyushu. KSRP contains an innovative complex composed of national, municipal, and private universities as well as research institutes. KSRP is an academic hub, implementing the goal of the advancement of science and technology, and elevating Kitakyushu to an industrial city, ready to compete in the 21st century. KSRP educates 2500 students including 600 overseas students, employs 150 teaching staff members, 200 researchers, and contains 60 enterprises.
Kitakyushu Foundation for the Advancement of Industry Science and Technology (FAIS) is a connector and coordinator between companies and the universities/research institutes. FAIS provides support for national and international research and development institutes and universities, enabling them to make full use of all that is available at KSRP. This support includes, but is not limited to, the following:
| Education (personnel training) | Assisting universities in providing "automotive electronics" curriculum, and giving lectures on semiconductor design to company technicians |
| Research and Development | Enriching knowledge by making full use of the achievements of national level projects |
| Industry-academia collaboration | Hosting industry-academia collaboration fairs and study groups on new technologies; offering laboratories for leasing |
| Base of companies specialized in new businesses | Forming a development base for semiconductor, automotive electronics, and robotics |
| Cooperation with other Asian cities | Actively accepting overseas students and cooperating with overseas universities to conduct research |
Given below is a list of universities, research institutes, companies, and industry-academia jointly use the facilities at KSRP
| Faculty of Environmental Engineering | Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering, Department of Information and Media Engineering, Department of Architecture, Department of Life and Environment Engineering |

| Graduate School of Life Science and Systems Engineering | Department of Biological Functions and Engineering, Department of Brain Science and Engineering |
| Graduate School of Information, Production and Systems | Information Architectural Field, Production Systems Field, System LSI Field |
| Graduate School of Engineering | Energy and Environment Systems (PhD) Recycling and Eco-Technology (MS) |
A) Industry-Academia Collaboration Center
With core facilities for research, companies can implement research and development in collaboration with the academic world.
Fukuoka Research Center for Recycling Systems and the Graduate Program of Recycling the Eco-Technology of Fukuoka University are located in the heart of KSRP. In addition, the Collaboration Center at KSRP offers various-sized conference and seminar rooms to easily meet the needs of small groups as well as larger groups of up to 100 people.
| Facilities | 31 laboratories, small and medium-sized seminar rooms and meeting rooms for leasing |
B) Semiconductor Center
The center has been created to facilitate the development of semiconductor precision processing technologies.
The center is the optimum location for companies and universities to conduct research and development tasks regarding semiconductor manufacturing and processing, as well as other related research. It provides the use of high precision machinery for the trial manufacturing of IC and MEMS. State-of-the-art laboratories are also available. It is also an ideal place to study the processes of IC trail-manufacturing (CMOS process).
| Facilities | 7 laboratories for leasing; Joint-use facilities for development of semiconductor technology (such as clean rooms, ion implantation equipment, plasma CVD, laser beam exposure apparatus, and more) |
C) IT Advancement Center
The Center is an ideal place to conduct research and development regarding network and semiconductor design. It provides companies and universities with facilities for research and development on advanced information technology, semiconductor design technology, and more. In addition, it provides the use of equipment and laboratories for semiconductor design and other research.
| Facilities | 24 laboratories and equipment for semiconductor design available for leasing |
D) Business Support Center
The Center has facilities to provide support for new businesses started by campus ventures.
In addition to general offices and laboratories for mechanical and chemical research, the Center also provides a joint-use laboratory for small companies.
| Facilities | 33 laboratories and a joint-use laboratory with 10 booths for leasing |
E) Technology Development Center
The Center is perfectly constructed to support the development of automotive electronics and robotic technologies.
Based on the technical achievements in Kitakyushu Science and Research Park, the Center provides facilities for technical development relating to automotive electronics and robots. It also offers accommodations for researchers who are visiting Kitakyushu Science and Research Park.
| Facilities | 38 laboratories, a large laboratory, a laboratory for chemical study, a laboratory for IT study, 9 accommodations (including 8 single-bed rooms and 1 double-bed room), and 2 seminar rooms for leasing |
F) Media Center
The Media Center is a multimedia station for collecting and transmitting information.
In addition to information collection, communication, and information-processing educational facilities, the Media Center also offers various information communication services, utilizing our high-tech on-campus broadband information network.
Laboratories for lease are also available
