Kitakyushu City has an excellent foundation for human resource development based on 100 years of history as an industrial city, contributing to the continuous development of human resources for the next generation.

In the city's core facility for human resource development, the Kitakyushu Science and Research Park, there are 10 research institutions and 54 companies, as well as science & technology universities/graduate schools, on one campus. Currently, approximately 2,200 students and 300 teachers/researchers are actively developing education research activities in the cutting-edge Science technology field. A great number of excellent human resources have been produced through such a rich educational environment, and greatly contributes to the regional economy.

There are over 1,700 students from overseas at universities in Kitakyushu (May, 2007). Foreign students are considered to be future human resources for international businesses, and are gaining attention as key people to connect Japan with their countries. The international business support organization, the Kitakyushu Trade and Investment One-Stop Service Center (KTI Center), has established a global human resources and Kitakyushu network to promote cooperation with companies.
